Series Human Rights
After two successful rounds of human rights training for local government administration, a three-day seminar was held in cooperation with the OSCE Mission to Serbia, to prepare participants for the third phase of training. The aim of the seminar is to improve the knowledge and skills of public officials from different regions in the recognition and performance of human rights practice and to improve the treatment of citizens concerning their rights. The training program was adjusted on the basis of participant requests to learn more about tolerance and develop negotiation skills.Lectures were followed with workshops, case studies and roll plays in order to provide participants with hands-on experience about how the issues could or should be resolved, and how human rights principles are applied in real life circumstances. On the requested themes of negotiation and tolerance, the program involved lectures and detailed elaborations of negotiation techniques as well as workshops about the culture of dialogue that allowed participants to practice negotiation and tolerance through the simulation of real-life situations. These techniques are necessary for the successful performing of duties in local government, both in day-to-day practice and in the long-term.
