Call for Regional Youth Training “YRT: On the Same Frequency”

The Belgrade Centre for Human Rights is pleased to announce the regional training “YRT: On the Same Frequency,” which will be held in Belgrade from September 26 to 29, 2024.

This training will gather young activists from the region who work in the fields of reconciliation, intercultural dialogue, and conflict transformation. Participants will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge on peacebuilding, transitional justice, and regional cooperation, as well as to explore the roles of youth in creating sustainable peace.

What can you expect?

  • A deeper understanding of identity topics and different types of identities;
  • Analysis and deconstruction of dominant cultural narratives in the region;
  • Discussions on stereotypes, prejudice, xenophobia, and ethnic intolerance;
  • Reflection on your role in the reconciliation process and the kind of activist you want to be;
  • Learning techniques for resilience to the stress that comes with peace activism;
  • Practical advice on engaging in peacebuilding and addressing the past;
  • An exchange of ideas with peers from the region about how to become a leader in your community.

The call is intended for young people (aged 18 to 30) from Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Kosovo, and Bosnia and Herzegovina*, who are interested in these topics. Previous experience working on these themes will be an advantage.

How to apply: All interested candidates can apply by filling out a short questionnaire at the link, no later than September 19, by 5:00 PM. All applicants will be informed of the application outcome no later than September 21, at noon.

The working language of the training is English, and all costs for food, accommodation, and travel are covered.

More details about the training are available at THIS link, and for any additional questions, please contact us at [email protected].

Youth Rights Talks has been providing young people a platform for the past six years to freely express their views on current social issues through speeches, allowing the youth’s perspectives, opinions, initiatives, and personal stories to be heard. This event annually connects hundreds of young people, representatives of international organizations, the academic community, youth workers, influencers, the media, decision-makers, and institutions involved in youth-related policies, challenges, and future issues. The event consists of youth speeches, panel discussions, open dialogues, and interactive sessions where the audience can participate. This year, the event is preceded by training, a podcast, and local workshops. Participation in the training does not obligate participants to be part of the event.

The training is organised within the project “Youth Rights Talks 2024 #Journey to the Centre of the Western Balkans”, which the Belgrade Centre for Human Rights has been implementing within the regional project “EU Support to Confidence Building in the Western Balkans,” funded by the European Union (EU) and implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

* This designation is without prejudice to positions on status, and is in line with UNSC 1244 and the ICJ Opinion on the Kosovo Declaration of Independence.
