“Vojin Dimitrijević“ 2024 Human Rights School Begins

The “Vojin Dimitrijević“ Human Rights School began in the Human Rights House in Belgrade on 28 October 2024. Over the next two weeks, its participants will attend intensive and comprehensive human rights education.

Most of the 22 attendees of this year’s Human Rights School are law and political science college seniors or master’s students, while some attend similar colleges.

The #2024 generation rallies youth and those who want to deepen their knowledge of human rights, to engage themselves and contribute to respect for human rights and to promoting a human rights culture in our country.

On the first day of the Human Rights School, the #2024 generation had the opportunity to hear Union Law School Professor Tatjana Papić’s lecture on the development and sources of human rights law, while lawyer Vladimir Đerić delivered a lecture on human rights restrictions and derogations from human rights. Vladica Ilić of the Belgrade Centre for Human Rights (BCHR) spoke about the prohibition of torture and inhuman and degrading treatment of punishment, while European Council on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE) Director Catherine Woollard discussed the topical issues and key perspectives on asylum and migration and human rights in the European Union.

BCHR Executive Director Sonja Tošković, the last speaker on the first day of the School, spoke about the role of non-government organisations in human rights protection

The #2024 generation was welcomed by German Ambassador to Serbia Anke Konrad at the opening of the Human Rights School.

The “Vojin Dimitrijević“ Human Rights School is an intensive and comprehensive human rights course, designed primarily for undergraduate seniors and master’s students specialising in law and other social sciences, as well as all others keen on deepning their knowledge, engaging themselves and contributing to respect for human rights in our country.

The 2024 School is held in Belgrade from 28 October to 8 November.

The holding of this year’s Human Rights School has been supported by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Belgrade.
