Training Yugoslav Lawyers to Appear Before the European Court of Human Rights

The Belgrade Centre for Human Rights and the Council of Europe organised two training seminars to train Serbian legal professionals (private practicing lawyers) and judges on the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). The seminars took place in Belgrade and were attended by a total of 50 participants from various Serbian cities. (more…)

Human Rights Training for Local Government Administration – Tolerance and Negotiation

After two successful rounds of human rights training for local government administration, a three-day seminar was held in cooperation with the OSCE Mission to Serbia, to prepare participants for the third phase of training. The aim of the seminar is to improve the knowledge and skills of public officials from different regions in the recognition and performance of human rights practice and to improve the treatment of citizens concerning their rights. The training program was adjusted on the basis of participant requests to learn more about tolerance and develop negotiation skills. (more…)

Round Table on Truth – Reconciliation – Perspectives of Cooperation

The round table “Truth – Reconciliation – Perspectives of Cooperation” was held in Pribroj on 24 May 2003. The aim of the program was to exchange ideas and establish dialogue on the basic principles of civil society in overcoming the consequences of war and improving the culture of human rights. The methodology of the round table program of was designed to affect all perspectives on the topic and to promote active participation in the discussions. (more…)

Developing and Strengthening Democracy and Human Rights Culture in the Region of Sandžak Through Human Rights Education

Project was drafted together with the members of the Governing Board of the Belgrade Centre for Human Rights and the activists in the branch office in Pribroj that was established at the beginning of 2003. The main aim of this project was to open the Office of the Belgrade Centre in Priboj and to help the activists to become independent local NGO. The office was equipped on the beginning of the 2003 and stated to work. Necessary office equipment was bought and installed at Priboj office. (more…)

Retraining Lawyers in Transition Countries of Southeast Europe

The Belgrade Centre for Human Rights and its regional partners (the Human Rights Center of the University of Sarajevo, the Croatian Helsinki Committee in Zagreb and the Centre for Democracy and Human Rights in Podgorica (CEDEM)) have been successfully cooperating in 2002 on this project. The goal of the project was re-education of the rule of law, human rights and humanitarian law to a target group of law professionals who were subject to a system of education that did not provide them with an opportunity to be properly introduced to the international promotion and protection of human rights. Participants were members of the legal profession including lawyers active in various branches of government, the judiciary, and representatives of private practice active in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Serbia.
