Today is 10 December – another Human Rights Day.

December 10, 2014

3098389490-e81098ebacThis year has been difficult in the whole world, and in some parts in armed conflicts cruel. Today, we have no reasons to celebrate in Serbia. Poverty, discrimination, violence and human rights violations are still part of our everyday life. Only few people feel well in Serbia – young persons are preoccupied with the sense of hopelessness and loss of perspective, old people are unprotected, employed people are afraid and unemployed are desperate. Human rights are at the bottom of priority list. Politicians on power are excusing themselves with the economic crisis. This is certainly not acceptable – human rights are not luxury.

Fight for human rights changed the world numerous times and there is no reason for its postponement. Citizens, especially vulnerable groups – children, women, Roma, detainees and prisoners, asylum seekers… have the right to be better.   And we have no right to give up.

We wish you a happy 10 December – another new day when we have the possibility to bring a change.
