The lecture “The Right to Asylum and Refugee Law in the Republic of Serbia – International and Domestic Law”

The lecture “The Right to Asylum and Refugee Law in the Republic of Serbia – International and Domestic Law” was held at the Faculty of Political Science within the project Migrate-Jean Monnet Network, where the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies of the Balkans of the Faculty of Political Science participates. The lecture was held by Bojan Stojanovic in front of the Belgrade Center for Human Rights.

Through a comprehensive approach, Stojanović presented international and domestic law, emphasizing the procedure through which asylum seekers pass on the territory of the Republic of Serbia. Special emphasis is put on the competence of institutions and examples of their handling in specific cases. Through analysis of several stages of the proceedings, Stojanovic explained the role of the Belgrade Center for Human Rights in providing legal assistance to asylum seekers. Finally, the shortcomings of the existing legal framework as well as the possibilities of improving the procedures for obtaining asylum in the Republic of Serbia were analyzed.
