Donor: Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia

Belgrade Centre for Human Rights conducts a program for acquainting persons who were granted refugee status on the territory of the Republic of Serbia with Serbian culture, history and Constitution by means of the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia in accordance with the Decree on the manner of inclusion in the social, cultural and economic life of persons who were granted asylum. The training program lasts 30 hours and covers the fields of geography, history, culture, human rights and constitutional order. For persons who do not speak Serbian, a translation into Arabic is provided. In addition to training in the classroom, thematic visits to museums such as the National Museum, the Ethnographic Museum and institutions such as the National Assembly, the Ombudsman and the National TV are envisaged. The basic part of the training is conducted in the House of Human Rights and Democracy.

The goal of this project is to improve the integration of asylum seekers and refugees in Serbia by supporting Serbian Government in the process of including asylum seekers and refugees in education system and labor market.

When it comes to activities that will lead to the fulfillment of this aim, the project entails a study visit of BCHR’s associates and Government officials to the Netherlands which will be organized by the Dutch Council for Refugees (DCR), ne two day training and  two roundtables for Serbian institutions engaged in education and labor market whereby DCR experts will show educational model and best practices for including refugees in labor market applied in the Netherlands.

The project will serve as a basis for facilitation of networking and to initiate dialog between the business sector and civil society organization about migration and asylum issues, particularly the role business community and employers could play in social integration and economical empowerment of refugees in Serbia.

The project will encompass artistic workshops and performance made jointly by Serbian youngsters and young asylum seekers/beneficiaries of international protection. These artistic activities will serve Serbian youngsters and foreigners as a platform for cross cultural exchange and it will facilitate social cohesion.

The play along with  knowledge attained during the study visit, and roundtables organized for relevant stakeholders should serve as a strong advocacy tool for the proper integration of asylum seekers and refugees in the educational system.

                The objective of the “Anonymous Hatred” project is to raise the awareness of expert and general public about the span of hate speech as a form of discrimination, on informative Internet portals and social networks, as well as formulating proposals for improving existing mechanisms for determining the responsibility and punishment policy for hate speech. The overall objective of the project is to further improve the criminal justice in Serbia. The objective of the project is to empower stake holders to wider use the alternative sanctions and alternatives to pre-trial detention and tackle the problem of impunity for torture, inhuman and degrading treatments or punishments by improving the legal practice through strategic litigation, education of police, attorneys at law, young lawyers, medical doctors and general public.
